đŸŽ” Live Music: Capital Jazz Collective

The Capital Jazz Collective is an Albany-based trio blending jazz, funk, fusion, and swing into a groove-driven, high-energy sound

Featuring City School District of Albany Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter (drums), Robert Lindquist (piano), and Anthony Berman (bass ), the group formed after a 2024 faculty concert and quickly grew into one of the Capital Region’s most in-demand live acts.

The Collective holds monthly residencies at Albany staples of Dove + Deer and New Scotland Spirits on Lark Street. They’ve performed at Albany’s historic Lark Tavern, McGeary’s, The Argus Hotel, Albany Capital Center, and Schoharie County favorites such as Creekside Collective, and Sunken City Cidery.

Pianist Robert Lindquist—an award-winning performer and staple of the Capital Region jazz scene—brings a dynamic mix of classical training and modern jazz sensibility, along with original compositions that shape the band’s sound.

Bassist Anthony Berman, a veteran of thousands of performances across the Northeast and a longtime collaborator with Bright Dog Red, anchors the group with precision, versatility, and a strong compositional voice.

Drummer Joseph Hochreiter draws from influences ranging from Paul Simon and Steve Gadd to Herbie Hancock and Maynard Ferguson, bringing a deep sense of groove and musicality to the trio’s sound.

Together, the Capital Jazz Collective delivers engaging, improvisation-driven performances that connect with audiences across generations—on stage and beyond. Expect deep grooves, adventurous improvisation, swinging standards, modern textures, and the kind of energy that only happens when jazz is played up close and personal at Wayward Lane.
