Live Music: The Outcrops

From the woods of northern New Jersey comes a band that feels like it was built for a place like ours. The Outcrops play blues soaked rock and soul with the kind of raw honesty that grabs you fast and hangs on. Led by vocalist and guitarist Cassidy Rain, whose voice lives somewhere between Bonnie Raitt warmth and Howlin Wolf grit, the band moves with a feeling that’s both tight and loose at the same time.

Her back and forth with lead guitarist Bryan Schroeder is where the magic starts. His lines float, bend, and weave in a way fans compare to Derek Trucks or Jerry Garcia, never overplayed, always exactly what the song needs. Underneath it all, the rhythm section locks into deep pocket grooves that bring funk, soul, and American roots together into something that feels familiar but entirely their own.

They’ve racked up serious accolades along the way, from winning the North Jersey Blues Challenge to being named NJ Band of the Year, and they’ve shared the stage with everyone from The Outlaws and Three Dog Night to some of the region’s best roots players. But what makes them special is the energy they bring in a live setting. It’s warm, gritty, melodic, and full of life.

If you’re into blues, soul, rock and roll, or anything with real feel behind it, this is the show.
